Stages of design and development: 

The Welland Canal Monument, Welland, Ontario, Canada. Bas Degroot designed the sculptures, but only two figures were more or less complete at the time of his death. The seated woman, in particular, was still in an unfinished state. Even the figures that had been sent to the foundry could not be refined after casting. The canal monument is across the street from  "Canal Construction," the first major public work Bas completed in Canada.
